The 2018 Youth Leadership Summit (YLS) is at capacity and all slots have been filled. Please check this webpage for updates on YLS programming.
Empowering gear up youth
The Youth Leadership Summit (YLS), helps GEAR UP high school students identify and maximize their leadership skills, create a national network of peers, and receive the tools and training to make positive change happen in their communities and around the world.
Over 3.5 days, the YLS enhances participants’ ability to speak confidently, work effectively in teams, and builds their capacity to lead. In turn, our YLS students then use these skills to serve their schools and communities.
All slots for the 2018 YLS have been filled.
For those programs who have been confirmed to participate in YLS, please take the following steps to onboard your students.
Each GEAR UP grant should complete one online application for all of their students. Review the YLS Application Submission Guidelines prior to starting the application, to learn what information and forms you will need to collect.
For more information on eligibility, chaperoning, program responsibilities, expected costs, and more, please read the YLS Application Information Sheet. For more information on the agenda for each day, please see the YLS Preliminary Schedule.
Step #1: select students
Now that your request has been approved for the YLS, you will need to select students. NCCEP seeks to create a geographically diverse cohort, and encourages you to choose students from different schools. Read the YLS Guide on Selecting Students to learn about the ideal characteristics we look for in students. You can also provide students with the YLS Guide For Prospective Students to gauge thier interest.
Step #2: Complete the Online Application
After selecting students, submit all of their information and authorization forms using the online application. In order to fill out the online application, please review the YLS Application Submission Guidelines. Be sure to upload the required authorization forms found below. Applications must be submitted by May 4, 2018.
Step #3: Register your students
All students must be registered in order to participate. The registration fee is $850 per student. Registration is now open.
