The Study Lab offers relevant online courses for GEAR UP professionals. These short courses cover key topics for every role and level of experience.
NCCEP created the Study Lab as part of our strategy to help GEAR UP professionals better serve students, families, and communities.
About the Study Lab
The Study Lab was created by GEAR UP, for GEAR UP. An advisory committee, ad hoc working groups, focus groups, and surveys informed the development of the courses, including determining common roles and key topics.
NCCEP collaborated with experts in educator professional development to design the courses. Student success is at the heart of the curriculum so the courses provide GEAR UP professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to serve students, families, and communities effectively.
The Study Lab offers something for everyone. The courses are designed for five key roles found in most GEAR UP programs:
Oversee grant management and program implementation.
Lead program at school sites, including developing and delivering college and career readiness activities.
Provide college access and success services directly to students.
Coordinate family outreach and support activities.
Manage collection, reporting, and analysis of data.
Individuals are welcome to take courses from more than one role type. For example, a College Access Professional may also want to take courses designed for a Family Engagement Specialist.
Most topics have a series of three courses, one for each level of experience: emerging, proficient, and expert. The courses build on each other, so we recommend taking the full module, regardless of experience.
Courses cover the knowledge needed for situations unique to GEAR UP and use examples from GEAR UP programs across the country.
Professionals can complete courses on their own schedule and anywhere with an internet connection.
Courses build on each other to serve the needs of professionals at any stage in their career. Courses may also count as professional development hours in your state or district.
The Study Lab’s online courses are affordable, with substantial discounts for NCCEP members. When you sign up for the Study Lab, be sure to enter your NCCEP Institutional Member ID. You can find your ID using the “NCCEP Member ID’s” button below.

Signing up for Study Lab courses is easy. First, browse the course listing on the Study Lab website. We offer unique courses or bundles of courses, which are all three levels of a course offered with a discount. When you are ready to make your selections, please download the order form below:
Once you have filled out the order form, please email it to studylab@edpartnerships.org. Once received, we will enroll you and your staff into your courses and send you an invoice for payment either by purchase order or credit card.
