The NCCEP/GEAR UP Capacity-Building Workshop is designed to develop the skills, knowledge, and practices of GEAR UP leaders, practitioners, and partners. Founded on our national strategy of EXCEL/PROVE/MOBILIZE, this event aims to provide relevant and critical content and knowledge for attendees. Each element of the conference aims to ensure that GEAR UP professionals receive training and resources aligned to these elements to help advance your programmatic success and expand your growth as a GEAR UP leader and change agent.

What to Expect

Burst Sessions

Each day begins with a thought-provoking and energizing “Burst” keynote session that will underscore one of our EXCEL/PROVE/MOBILIZE strategies. Monday will feature elements of EXCEL, Tuesday of PROVE, and Wednesday of MOBILIZE. These Burst keynotes are intended to prepare the audience to dive deeper into the topics, while underscoring the importance and critical nature of each part of the national strategy.

Workshops

Following the energizing Burst keynote sessions, each morning will consist of intensive workshops focused on cross-cutting skills that align with the national strategy. In the past, each morning only had workshops that aligned with the Burst keynote session; this year we’re offering workshops that cut across EXCEL/PROVE/MOBILIZE each morning. In these hands-on workshops, you’ll learn foundational skills necessary to improve the impact of GEAR UP in your community.

Skill-Building Seminars

After a networking lunch, the afternoon will feature shorter seminars that focus on specific best practices that can be adapted to your local context. In another hands-on format, you’ll have the opportunity to learn from and interact with peers to build strategies that are pertinent to your GEAR UP program. Following the seminars on Monday, you’ll have a chance to network with like-minded peers through affinity groups and on Tuesday you’ll have the chance to debrief with your team about what you’ve learned.
