Near-peer undergraduate advisors play an incredibly critical role in the success of GEAR UP programs. This workshop will focus on the design and implementation of San Diego State University GEAR UP’s near-peer undergraduate advising model, including the use of undergraduate students and a 7th–12th grade advising curriculum, and how to integrate advising into the schools for sustainable results. Workshop presenters will demonstrate how to maximize the effectiveness of this near-peer model and how to continually improve programming by highlighting effective practices and providing knowledge-sharing opportunities for participants. Additionally, hear testimonials from current advisors about how this model plays out in the field.
