This presentation will focus on three topics related to the impact evaluation of the Rhode Island GEAR UP program. First, we will present research methods and techniques utilized to secure the best possible baseline equivalence in selecting a comparison group for program participants to be used in the summative evaluation. Second, we will present impact estimates on high school and college outcomes of one cohort of GEAR UP program participants. Third, we will demonstrate the practice in the RI GEAR UP program of integrating findings from formative evaluation research with program management and the positive programmatic effects of this practice.
