CIBOLA COUNTY - A special message for Grants High School graduates, class of 2014, the Education Trust Board Pathways Scholarship is currently taking applications. Students involved in the GEAR UP program are encouraged to apply. The ETB Pathways Scholarship program is funded by donation from Oppenheimer Funds to ETB and is intended to assist the ETB Board in marketing its college savings efforts in New Mexico.
There are requirements:
- Enrolled full time at a college or university, fall 2014 and spring 2015
- Complete fall semester 2014 and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00
- Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) of $1,000 or less as determined by FAFSA completion (meet with the Financial Aid advisor to determine your EFC)
- Fill out online application
After the recipients have been selected, they must attend a GEAR UP New Mexico meeting on Saturday, Feb. 21, the time and location will be determined. Students may attend in person or by webinar. The recipients should be willing to share successes and challenges in college for evaluation purposes and in news releases and other outreach efforts as needed. This process is to gather information for GEAR UP to better help students. Grants High School's Jacque Jones said, "We need to know the challenges they face so that we can help them. This scholarship is an amazing opportunity for students."
There will be a committee to screen applications and rank individuals based on the applicant's academic eligibility, EFC and intent to participate in the GEAR UP scheduled meeting. Information will be verified by the student's financial aid office. Student will receive award notification. Funds are sent directly to the higher education institution. Funds can be used for tuition, fees, supplies and books.
The final award amount can be up to $1,000. The amount is determined by the evaluation committee. It’s based on available funding and the total number of eligible applicants.
If a student received an ETB scholarship in fall 2014 they do no qualify for spring 2015. The application window will be from January 12-30, 2015. Applications are due on Friday, January 30, 2015. A key piece of this process is that the signature page will have to be printed, signed, scanned and emailed to GearUp.NM@state.nm.us.
