LAYTON — Low-income students are invited to participate in Weber State University’s GEAR UP, a college preparation program that provides support to students in ninth through twelfth grades.

GEAR UP, which stands for Gaining Early Awareness & Readiness for Undergraduate Programs, works to increase academic performance and graduation rates among high school students.

Another goal is to help students prepare for and enroll in post-secondary education and to help their families learn about educational options and financing. Students are assisted during their first year of higher education as well, according to a release.

Four Davis County schools are registering students for the programs. They include Central Davis and North Davis junior highs and Layton and Clearfield high schools.

For additional information and an application, contact 801-395-3547 or weber/edu/stategearup.

There is no cost for participation in the program.
