  1. NCCEP Founder Steps Down
    The National Council for Community and Education Partnerships (NCCEP) announces the resignation of its founder, Héctor Garza, Ed.D, MPH. Dr. Garza is stepping down from his position as the organization’s International President to dedicate his attention to leading the Consejo Nacional de Alianzas Educativas in Mexico. “Dr. Garza has shown tremendous leadership and drive as the organization’s founder and visionary. The NCCEP Board and staff extend our best wishes to him as he devotes himself fully to his groundbreaking academic achievement work in Mexico,” said Dr. Laura I. Rendón, Chair of the NCCEP Board of Directors. In January 2011, NCCEP hired Nathan Monell, CAE, as Executive Director to oversee NCCEP’s U.S. programs. For more information, please click here.


  2. U.S. Department of Education Releases 2011 GEAR UP Grant Awards Slate
    The U.S. Department of Education released the FY2011 slate of states and partnerships that will receive funding from the federal GEAR UP program.


  3. NCCEP Presents "Writing a GEAR UP Grant Proposal Webinar Series"
    GEAR UP has proven to be effective at empowering youth to become academically prepared to enter into and succeed in postsecondary education. Because of this, more and more communities have realized the many benefits of having a GEAR UP grant in their community. With the new competition about to be announced, many more people will be applying for a GEAR UP grant, making the process even more competitive.

    What does the new RFP look like? What is NEW in this competition? How can you strategically address the competitive priorities, invitational priority, performance measures, and selection criteria in order to develop a competitive proposal? What are some of the permissible activities and what are the required activities? What about the optional 7th year?

    NCCEP will be delivering two webinars on writing a competitive proposal: one webinar is designed for partnership grant applicants, and the other for state grant applicants. Both webinars have been designed to help you develop a strong proposal and will be led by seasoned GEAR UP professionals, providing you access to experienced facilitators and their experiences in writing and managing an effective GEAR UP program(s). Current grantees can use program funds to attend the webinars as they are an allowable expense for training. Please direct questions concerning the webinar to Allan Jimenez .

  5. U.S. Department of Education Announces Notice Inviting Applications for New Awards for the 2011 Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) Grant Competition

  6. NCCEP will be presenting two webinars on "Writing a Competitive GEAR UP Grant Proposal."
    This year is expected to be a very competitive process.  To help potential grantees write a competitive application, NCCEP will be conducting two webinars that will review key elements of this year’s applications.  One webinar will focus on potential State grantees, and another one potential Partnership grantees.

  8. GEAR UP 2011 Partnership and State Grant Competition Pre-Application Technical Assistance Workshops
    The U.S. Department of Education led Pre-Application Technical Assistance Workshops for the 2011 Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) Partners and State Grants Competition prove to be a great success. Program staff presented information about the purpose of the GEAR UP Program, selection criteria, application content, submission procedures, and reporting requirements.
