My Money - Saving It

Where to Find a Few Bucks to Save

"Senior year is expensive-prom, senior pictures, graduation, AP exams-so I started saving for senior year when I was a junior."--Maria
Here are a few ideas for finding ways to save:

  • Put $1 a day plus your loose change in a jar. By the end of the month, you may have $50 or more to deposit into your savings account. (If you don't have a savings account, click here to learn how to set one up.)
  • Do you buy something almost every day-say, a soda or snacks? Instead, take the money you spend and put it into your savings account.
  • If you get an allowance, put part of it into your savings account before you spend the rest.
  • When you get cash as a gift, stash some of it in your savings account.
  • Plug spending leaks-and save what you would have spent.
  • Get a part-time job or ask your family or neighbors if you can do some chores for them. Save part of what you earn.
