How About an Internship?
An internship gives you a chance to get hands-on job experience and learn about a possible career at the same time. Your high school may know about internship opportunities. Ask your teachers or counselor. You’ll find that some internships may pay a small salary, and some do not pay—you work there for the experience.

You also can search on your own for an internship. Contact companies or organizations in fields that interest you, either by phone or mail, and ask if they accept teen interns. If they do, great! Ask how you can apply. If the organization does not have an internship program now, ask if they would consider starting one—with you.

Here are some places where you might find an internship:

  • Veterinary office
  • Financial services company
  • Dentist’s office
  • Landscaping company
  • Radio station
  • Advertising agency
What other ideas can you add?
