How is the Capacity-Building Workshop
Structured?
The 2008 Capacity-Building Workshop will offer a menu of
professional development activities organized around four major
components: (1) Workshops, which provide in-depth
training that spans the mornings of February 11-13, (2) Seminars
Sessions, which refer to an array of hour-long, stand-alone,
topical seminars offered during the afternoon of February 11, (3)
How-To Seminars, a group of more in-depth training
opportunities offered once during the afternoon of February 12, and (4)
Pre-Workshop Sessions, which are optional, one- time
sessions offered on February 10. Please refer to the schedule at-a-glance for an illustration of how the
workshops and seminars are structured.
1.) Workshops
Participants are invited to register for one of the
following six workshops. Each workshop provides participants with three
sequential sessions addressing the workshop topic. For additional
information about each workshop, please visit the links below below:
2.) Seminars
Designed as an opportunity for GEAR UP professionals to
investigate current topics shaping education reform at the local, state
and national levels, seminar sessions are intended to provide cutting
edge insight into key issues as well as to serve as a forum to discuss
their implications on local GEAR UP practices. Thirteen sessions will be
offered on Monday from 1:45 pm - 2:45 pm and each will be repeated from
3:00 pm - 4:00 pm, allowing participants the opportunity to investigate
two topics Monday afternoon. Seating for these sessions will be
available on-site on a first-come, first-served basis.

3.) How-To Seminars
These sessions are designed to provide information of
critical importance to the effective operation of a GEAR UP program. In
contrast to the Seminar Sessions, the How-To Sessions will have a
training component on that topic. How-To Seminars will be presented on
Tuesday from 1:45 pm - 3:00 pm. The 10 How-To sessions will be offered
concurrently on Tuesday and will not be repeated. Seating for these
sessions will be available on-site on a first-come, first-served
