EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP
Hector
Garza, Ed.D, MPH
President
Hector Garza
serves as the founding president of the National Council for Community
and Education Partnerships (NCCEP). Prior to founding NCCEP, Dr. Garza
served as the Vice President for Access and Equity Programs at the
American Council on Education (ACE) in Washington, D.C. for six years.
In this position, Dr. Garza directed the Office of Minorities in Higher
Education and also coordinated and supervised the programs and
activities of the Office of Women in Higher Education, and the HEATH
Resource Center. Through his ACE affiliation, Dr. Garza provided
leadership and technical assistance to member college and university
presidents in areas of student/faculty recruitment and retention, campus
diversity, affirmative action in college admissions, minority affairs
and higher education management.
For the past ten
years, he has served as a senior consultant to the Ford Foundation on
K-16 initiatives, and during the past three years has served a similar
role on behalf of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. Through this consulting
experience, he has gained a wealth of knowledge and field experience in
creating and sustaining K-16 educational partnerships, and has provided
training and technical assistance in areas of educational reform,
evaluation of college access programs, partnership building, media
relations, community engagement, race relations and effective strategies
for educating low-income and minority students in K-20. Through his
work, he has also served on the projects' assessment team and helped to
design, field-test and implement various assessment strategies, research
designs, and evaluation instruments used in the Urban Partnership
Project, the Rural Community College Initiative, and the Engaging Latino
Communities for Education Initiative.
Prior to his
appointment as Vice President, Dr. Garza served as the Associate
Graduate Dean for Academic Program Development and Review at Eastern
Michigan University. Other career positions he has held include:
Executive Director, Governor's Commission on Spanish-Speaking Affairs,
State of Michigan; Assistant Graduate Dean for Graduate
Admissions/Records at Eastern Michigan University; and, Coordinator of
Experiential Education/Learning at The University of
Michigan.
His long-term
service and achievements in academe have earned him many awards and
accolades from institutions and organizations such as the University of
Michigan, Eastern Michigan University, the U.S. Department of
Agriculture, Central Michigan University, the National Hispanic
University, George Mason University, the American Association for Higher
Education, the Council of Graduate Schools, the State of Michigan, among
others.
Dr. Garza holds
Baccalaureate, Masters and Doctorate degrees from the University of
Michigan at Ann Arbor.
Ranjit
Sidhu
Executive Vice President
Ranjit Sidhu is Executive Vice President of the National Council
for Community and Education Partnerships (NCCEP). In this role, he has senior
leadership responsibility for much of the organizations programmatic and
policy initiatives as well as the organizations staffing and
operations. In
addition, he is active in building the organization’s capacity
around corporate and community relations services in order to promote
the council’s mission of forming partnerships between schools,
communities and colleges for the purpose of helping minority and
under-privileged children obtain a higher education.
Prior to joining NCCEP,
Mr. Sidhu served as the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating
Officer for the National Association of Partners in Education where he
oversaw external strategic alliance activity as well as all internal
operations. During his
tenure at Partners in Education he also served as the Director of Field
Services, managing the technical assistance and training operations for
the Association.
His professional background
includes experiences as: a community/school partnership manager for the
George Washington University; a high school social studies teacher in
the District of Columbia and Prince Georges County (MD) public school
systems; and as a policy analyst for the American Petroleum
Institute.
He holds Masters Degrees in
Education as well as Public/International Affairs from the University of
Pittsburgh and the George Washington University and a Bachelors Degree
from Mary Washington College.
