- 2012 NCCEP/GEAR UP Youth Congress - Sponsored by Texas Instruments
With the generous support of Texas Instruments, NCCEP is thrilled to be
partnering with the well-respected team at GEAR UP for Excellence to lead and deliver this
year's inaugural Youth Congress.
The highly regarded GEAR UP for Excellence team has worked with NCCEP's
Youth Leadership Summit (YLS) in the past and will continue to be a key
partner in transitioning it to the Youth Congress this year.
NCCEP's Youth Congress is a new forum that will provide the opportunity
for student perspectives and opinions at the 2012 NCCEP/GEAR UP Annual
Conference. The Youth Congress is a youth leadership program that
implements a student-focused curriculum, blending leadership development
with life skills and strategies for increased learning.
This Youth Congress transition from the previously offered Youth
Leadership Summit opens up the program to all GEAR UP projects
interested in registering and accompanying one or more GEAR UP students.
The program is open to 8th through 12th grade GEAR UP students, as
determined by the GEAR UP Director. Click
here for more information about this year's Youth Congress. For any
additional questions, please contact Diane Charles, NCCEP's
Director of National Programs, via e-mail or
202-530-1135, ext. 109.
- Ignite! Competition and Presentations at the 2012
NCCEP/GEAR UP Annual Conference
NCCEP is hosting an Ignite! competition to bring the most
compelling stories of GEAR UP's impact to the 2012 Annual Conference.
Following the national model, Ignite! presenters will share
their personal and professional passions before the GEAR UP audience,
using 20 slides that auto-advance every 15 seconds, for a total
presentation time of 5 minutes. We know your GEAR UP journey includes
successes and challenges. Ignite! is your chance to tell your
GEAR UP story in a way that others will listen.
Please watch and share NCCEP's webinar
"Ignite! - A Tool to Tell Your GEAR UP Story" to learn
valuable tips using stories for personal advocacy, and to hear details
about Ignite! and NCCEP's guidelines for submitting an
Ignite! session for the conference.
Anyone who is involved with GEAR UP - professionals, students,
parents
and grantee partners - is encouraged to develop and submit a video
Ignite! presentation. All submissions will be reviewed, and
selected individuals will be asked to deliver their presentation as part
of our inaugural Ignite! presentations during this year's
